The Pogo Stick World Record: A History of Record-Breaking Feats

The pogo stick has been a beloved toy for generations, entertaining both children and adults alike. It is a classic source of entertainment and fun that has been enjoyed in playgrounds and backyards around the world. But while the pogo stick may be a beloved pastime, some have taken it to the extreme by setting world records with their pogo stick feats. Here is a look at the history of pogo stick world records and some of the most impressive record-breaking feats.

The earliest known record-breaking feat done on a pogo stick dates back to the 1920s. According to the Guinness World Records, the earliest recorded feat was done by a pogo stick aficionado by the name of Larry Griswold

Griswold was a daredevil who enjoyed jumping on a pogo stick at extraordinary heights. On April 6, 1923, Griswold jumped on a pogo stick from a height of 10 feet, 6 inches (3.2 meters). This feat set the world record for the highest pogo stick jump and was the first recorded world record for the activity.

Since Griswold’s record-breaking feat in 1923, there have been numerous attempts to break the pogo stick world record. In the early 2000s, several attempts were made to jump higher than the 10-foot, 6-inch record but all of them failed

However, in 2012, a pogo stick enthusiast by the name of Ashrita Furman set a new world record by jumping 11 feet, 11 inches (3.63 meters) on a pogo stick. Furman was able to beat the previous record by utilizing a specially-designed pogo stick that allowed him to reach the extraordinary height.

In 2017, the world record for the highest pogo stick jump was broken yet again by an Australian pogo stick enthusiast named Ryan Moulden. Moulden was able to reach a height of 12 feet, 7

68 inches (3.85 meters) on a pogo stick, beating the previous world record by nearly a foot. Moulden’s feat was performed in front of a live audience and was captured by cameras, making it one of the most memorable record-breaking performances in history.

In addition to the highest jump record, the pogo stick world record also includes feats that involve the longest and fastest jumps. The Guinness World Records currently lists the longest pogo stick jump record at 5 minutes and 13 seconds, which was set by an American pogo stick aficionado named Chris Patz in 2012

The fastest pogo stick jump record is held by an Australian pogo stick enthusiast named Jack Doerkson, who was able to jump at a speed of 37.2 kilometers per hour (23.1 miles per hour) in 2019.

While the pogo stick may be considered a classic toy, the feats of the world record holders have shown that it is still a source of extreme entertainment and can be used to set some truly remarkable records. From Larry Griswold’s 10-foot, 6-inch jump in 1923 to Ryan Moulden’s 12-foot, 7

68-inch jump in 2017, the pogo stick world record has been broken several times over the years. As more pogo stick enthusiasts attempt to break these records, the feats of the current world record holders will continue to be an inspiration to those who love the activity and the challenge of pushing their limits.

So, the next time you’re out in the playground or backyard with your pogo stick, remember that you too can achieve extraordinary feats with the right determination and dedication. Whether you’re aiming to break the world record or just having fun with friends, the pogo stick is sure to provide you with an entertaining and memorable experience.
